Research

Member of the research group Intelligent Systems and Datamining, belonging to Albacete Research Institute of Informatics I3A.

My work is mainly focused in the following research lines:
  • Mobile robots
Most of my work is related to the generation of behaviours for general pourpose autonomous mobile robots. I have presented proposals for the RoboCup soccer championship, where I have used two different robotic platforms: Sony AIBO and Aldebaran NAO.

I am currently working on the development of a social robot, able to help handicapped people

  • Computer Vision
My research in this field is related to real-time object detection/recognition. In this field I have mainly used colour-based tecniques for the detection of RoboCup goals, beacons and the ball.

I am also working on visual place recognition with application to robotics, where I have used invariant features.

  • Localization
Robot localization is a key problem in making fully autonomous mobile robots. This problem consists of answering the question "Where am I?" from a robot's point of view. My research includes the use of well-known localization algorihtms as the Kalman Filter (KF) or the Monte Carlo Localization method (MCL).

I am also working on the challenge of classifying images depending on semantic areas, which is called "visual place classi cation" or sometimes "place recognition". This classification problem can also be considered a localization task.

  • Evolutionary Computation and Intelligent Systems
I have studied and implemented solutions based on evolutionary compuation (genetic and memetic algorithms), fuzzy logic or bayesian networks.

  • Machine Learning
I am mainly working on the use of SVMs for the generation of visual place classifiers
